MeeKiri, a new and unique frozen curd concept, is opened in the heart of Ella, Sri Lanka, offering locals and tourists a taste of authentic Sri Lankan frozen curd with the natural sweetness of Kithul honey.
But ‘MeeKiri’ is more than just a culinary experience—it’s a love story about friendship, entrepreneurship, and the desire to give back.
MeeKiri was born from the close bond between three friends: Naveen, Natalia, and Mario. The three met by chance in Sri Lanka and, through their shared vision and values, decided to build something meaningful
together. What started as a simple conversation about bringing traditional curd to tourists who fall in love with the country soon evolved into a project, now fully crowd-funded by a network of friends and foodies with big hearts who care and want to give back.
“We fell in love with the local Sri Lankan dessert, made of curd and Kithul honey, as soon as we arrived and could not believe it is not yet sold in a frozen form. Aligned with Naveen, we wanted to share this taste with tourists and at the same time support local producers and the community,” say Mario and Natalia.
At the heart of MeeKiri are Naveen and his wife, Anu, two locals who have taken their first steps into entrepreneurship. The project empowers them to grow a sustainable business while supporting other local entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka.
A Commitment to Authenticity and Quality:
MeeKiri’s simple menu centers around frozen curd—a delicacy unique to Sri Lanka—served with Kithul honey, a locally sourced sweetener that rivals the best maple syrup. Each ingredient is carefully chosen, supporting small entrepreneurs who are passionate about their craft. “The idea was to bring a taste of Sri Lanka’s authenticity into a modern format” explains Naveen. “Frozen curd has the richness of tradition and the cool freshness that tourists crave."
Located between the famous Dream Café and Maya Store, MeeKiri’s first store is perfectly positioned in Ella, one of the island’s most sought-after destinations for trekkers and nature lovers.
Taste the Tradition, Share the Joy - MeeKiri’s Social Impact:
MeeKiri sources its curd from a family-owned farm that cares for over 100 buffalos, ensuring the freshest and most authentic product for their customers. MeeKiri also sources its Kithul honey from rural areas around Badulla, supporting local farmers.
Beyond its culinary offerings, MeeKiri is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the community. Forty percent of the store’s profits will be given to local charities and good causes to give back to Sri Lanka and support its incredible people.
Additionally, MeeKiri will provide free servings to the drivers who bring tourists to the store, recognizing their role as brand ambassadors of Sri Lanka. “Drivers are the backbone of Sri Lankan tourism. They guide, inform, and often become friends to the travelers. We want toshow our gratitude by offering them something as well," says Naveen, who was once a driver himself—that’s how he met Natalia and Mario.
