Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Euwan Ranasinghe convened a high-level meeting to address significant issues affecting tourists at Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Key challenges discussed included long queues, inadequate first aid and water facilities, poor rest areas, insufficient lighting, inadequate shelters for emergencies like wasp attacks, and unregulated tourist guides.

Infrastructure concerns such as traffic congestion, outdated museum facilities, neglected historical features like ancient water lilies, and a lack of engaging signage were also highlighted. Despite high entry fees, tourists feel the experience lacks value.

Proposed solutions include streamlining ticketing, improving safety measures, creating rest areas, upgrading the museum, restoring historical features, and enhancing visitor navigation through thematic signage. These measures aim to elevate Sigiriya's appeal and ensure sustainable management of its cultural and archaeological significance.
